Welcome to Menopause Health, a space created by and for women seeking clear, honest, and scientifically backed information about one of the most significant transitions of their lives: Perimenopause, Penopause, and Post-Menopause.
This blog was founded by Vilma Mendonça, a pharmacist with over 20 years of clinical experience and specializations in phytotherapy, homeopathy, and cosmetology. All articles published here are reviewed and approved by Vilma to ensure the content is grounded in scientific evidence. We do not rely on passing fads, assumptions, or sponsored opinions.
About Vilma Mendonça
Vilma Mendonça is a pharmacist (CRF 9930-RJ) specializing in:
Phytotherapy – evidence-based use of medicinal plants and botanical extracts.
Homeopathy – natural and individualized treatment approaches.
Cosmetology – skin health and topical treatments.
With over two decades of working directly with women facing hormonal changes, Vilma noticed a recurring pattern. Women would arrive at her pharmacy lacking information and context regarding one of the most impactful biological transitions of their lives.
Many women were told their symptoms were “just stress.” Many were prescribed anti-anxiety medication. Few had their hormone levels investigated, and many lacked medical information.
Many suffered in silence, feeling ashamed to speak about the symptoms they were experiencing.
This blog exists to change that reality.
Our Mission
At Menopause Health, our mission is simple:
To provide women with the information they deserve clearly, honestly, and based on science.
We believe that every woman experiencing perimenopause, menopause, or post-menopause deserves to understand what is happening in her body. Not a simplified version. Not a watered-down version meant to avoid discomfort. Instead, the real picture backed by evidence, explaining the underlying mechanisms, and offering practical tools for action.
We cover topics such as:
Symptoms – what they are, why they occur, and what determines their duration.
Remedies and natural foods, with honest assessments; all explanations are based on proven evidence.
Supplements – dosage, forms of administration, and realistic expectations.
Exercise and nutrition – specific, actionable protocols rather than generic advice.
Mental health – anxiety, mood swings, brain fog, and sleep disturbances explained from a hormonal perspective.
Physical changes – such as joint pain, muscle loss, weight redistribution, and changes to skin and hair.
When to seek medical help because natural approaches have limits, and understanding those limits is just as important as knowing the available options.
Our Approach
All articles on this blog follow the same standards:
Evidence-based. Every claim is backed by published scientific research. We cite our sources with links to PubMed and full journal references because you deserve to verify what you read.
Transparency regarding limitations. Natural approaches work for many women, but not for everyone, and they do not replace medical care. We make this clear.
A pharmaceutical perspective. Vilma reviews every article through the lens of her 20 years of clinical pharmacy practice. This means understanding not just what the research says, but how it applies to real women in real clinical situations.
No sponsored content. Our editorial decisions are never influenced by brands or advertisers. When we recommend a product, it is because the evidence supports it not because someone paid us to do so.
Note: Some articles contain affiliate links for products we genuinely recommend. As Amazon Associates, we earn a small commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. This helps us keep the blog running and free of charge.
Why Menopause Health Matters
Two-thirds of Alzheimer’s patients are women. Women are twice as likely as men to suffer from anxiety. They lose bone density more rapidly after menopause, whereas men lose less at any stage of life. Furthermore, women have a significantly higher likelihood of developing autoimmune diseases, as well as thyroid disorders and cardiovascular disease, following menopause.
Yet, for most of medical history, menopause was treated as a mere inconvenience a brief phase to be endured rather than a significant transition with measurable long-term health consequences.
That landscape is changing. The science surrounding menopause has advanced considerably over the last decade. Conversations are becoming more open, and information is more accessible.
We are here to be part of that change writing one article at a time, for every woman.
